The QWERTY - ISO keyboard driver

The page is written in Unicode UTF-8 system using the font named Lucida Sans Unicode, available on Windows 98 SE and Windows Millennium systems.

All the 7-bit coded ASCII characters are obtained by pressing a key of the alphanumeric block of the keyboard either alone or with contemporary pressing of the Shift key. These characters are independent of the set-up codepage.

Characters coded with the 8th bit set are so called national characters or ANSI characters. They can be various depending on the codepage. The present driver of the keyboard is suitable only for the ISO 8859-2 (Central Europe) page being recommended for writing Polish texts on the Internet. This page is generally not supported on MS Windows operating system especially for writing texts, so if you want to edit your Polish WWW pages using Notepad or another plain text editor, you will need a special ISO 8859-2 font (not Unicode) and this keyboard driver to be installed.

The included program (INSTALL.BAT) will install the special keyboard driver and two ISO fonts: Arial 8859-2 and PolskieStrony 2002 on your computer. Contrary to other driver available through the Internet, the fonts as well the driver support the ISO 8859-2 standard fully. It means they make possible to insert all the characters contained in this standard from your keyboard, so not only Polish national letters but also Czech ones, Hungarian ones etc.

Remark: using the attached driver, you cannot insert characters not present in ISO 8859-2, including e.g. the euro sign (€), the per mille (‰) or the micro sign (µ).

The use of the Right Alt key lets you achieve all the typical Polish letters.

You can obtain several characters by pressing, one after the other, a combination being a dead key and a given key alone or with the Shift key. Eg. the pressing ` and next Shift + a lets you achieve Ą.
